2018 Indianapolis 500: IndyCar Bump Day Qualifying Results - Castroneves Fastest! Hinchcliffe, Mann Out!

After two rain delays, the first 33 cars were qualified for the 2018 Indianapolis 500. Charlie Kimball was the last driver to make the field. Ed Carpenter would qualify next with expectations of making the Fast Nine. Carpenter would not disappoint, as he put up the second quickest qualifying results of the day. As a result Conor Daly would be bumped from the field.
Pippa Mann would move to the bubble.
Oriol Servia would make an attempt and the team would wave him off at around 220 mph. Pippa would remain on the bubble.
Conor Daly would try to make it back into the field, and he would just barely bump Pippa from the field with a lap of 224.736.
Daly would be back on the bubble with 40 minutes to go.
Jack Harvey would re-qualify and put himself safely into the field - 27th. Daly would stay in jeopardy.
Ryan Hunter-Reay stepped up next to try to make the Fast Nine, and miss. He would slightly improve on his time.
Oriol Servia - who was out of the field - would be up next and he would improve!
Daly out, James Hinchcliffe to the bubble with 27 minutes in the session.
Scott Dixon would up next with an aim, though already in the Fast Nine. He would improve from 9th to 8th.
Conor Daly would make his next attempt, and jump up to 32nd!
James Hinchcliffe was bumped.
James Davison was on the bubbble.
Pippa Mann would take another crack at making the field, but Dale Coyne would wave off the futile attempt.
James Hinchcliffe would start his next attempt, but after reporting a severe vibration the team would bring him back in for another set of Firestone tires.
Next on track was Alexander Rossi who previously qualified 10th, and would improve his time, but miss the Fast Nine.
Pippa Mann would make another attempt, and miss while Hinchcliffe sat waiting for his next run.
He would never get it.
Davison would be the last driver on the bubble.
James Hinchcliffe and Pippa Mann will miss the 2018 Indianapolis 500. Hinchcliffe said of his run, "Its a big blow. Everyone is excited that we are bumping again at Indy, I'm a little less thrilled about it than I was 24 hours ago."
