226.744 mph! Less wind! Jay Howard and his No. 77 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda went fastest on the fourth day of Indianapolis 500 practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Just two IndyCars have broke the 226 mph barrier in four practice sessions so far. Howard set his time about 15 minutes into the afternoon, and the time stood all day as teams focused on race, traffic setups.

Overall, a mere seven mph separated Howard, and the 32nd fastest driver - or 1.3 seconds.

Ryan Hunter-Reay and his No. 28 Andretti Autosport Honda was second quick on another tricky day though the 45 mph winds had died down quite a bit. Even so, "All it takes is a gust of wind, and you can get turned around very quick. I was wheeling it, and had some interesting moments today."

The only other car to eclipse 226 mph this month is the Andretti Autosport Honda driven by Marco Andretti. He was third quick today at 225.7 mph.

Two-time Formula One F1 driver Fernando Alonso was fourth quick today, and went the fastest he has ever gone in an IndyCar. Alonso turned 96 laps - nearly half a race distance - in the tough conditions. Nice work!

Josef Newgarden and his No. 2 Team Penske IndyCar was the fastest Chevrolet - 225.455 mph - right up until his hit the wall after losing it low in Turn One. It was hard hit, and ended his day. He was able to walk away from the incident. His time held up for most of the day, he was fifth quick. Newgarden said, " Itís obviously not something you want to do. I just got called into the pits, so I was coming in and I didnít want to check up too much for the guys behind me and cause a problem. It just seemed to get away from me."

Bad luck continues to follow Sebastien Bourdais and his Dale Coyne Racing IndyCar. Bourdais brought out a yellow with smoke trailing his Honda powered entry.

Next up, the IndyCar series will be Fast Friday!
