Dillon Picks Up Fourth NASCAR Truck Pole Of The Season At Kentucky

Twenty-year-old Austin Dillon picked up his fourth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pole award of the season by three one-hundredths of a second after scorching the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway tri-oval with a 175.177-mph (30.826 seconds) lap in his No. 3 Richard Childress Racing machine this afternoon. The 11th different NCWTS pole winner in track history will start tonight’s "Built Ford Tough 225 presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" alongside Johnny Sauter, who qualified his No. 13 ThorSport Racing truck with a solid 175.160-mph (30.829 seconds) lap.

Dillon, who started this season’s Texas Motor Speedway, Michigan International Speedway and Iowa Speedway events from the top spot on the grid, will roll off tonight’s grid seventh in the series standings after scoring an Iowa victory and a total of five top-five and 11 top-10 finishes.

"The Bass Pro Shops truck has been running awesome, I feel like we earned it. I knew the key would be turns one and two. When I got through that and just cruised up to the wall, I was like, ‘wow, this is going to be fast,’ so I just took it through turns three and four and the guys got on the radio and said we’re on the pole.

"The truck has just had an awesome set up all weekend. I’ve been able to stay consistent on the track and the guys have made the right calls and right adjustments. We’re just looking forward to the race tonight," Dillon said.

Sauter will start tonight’s race third in the series standings after knocking out a Kansas Speedway victory and a total eight top-five and nine top-10 finishes through 17 starts. He placed 22nd in last season’s "Built Ford Tough 225 presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" and will make his second NCWTS Kentucky start sitting third in the series standings and trailing leader Todd Bodine by 303 points. Bodine qualified 14th for the second time in the past two races, but will attempt to maintain the solid form he displayed during the last five races that generated back-to-back victories at Nashville Superspeedway and Darlington Raceway, a sixth-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway and a second-place showing last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.

He will make his fifth NCWTS Kentucky start in search of his second top-five and third top-10 Kentucky finish. He earned his series track-best second-place finish in his 2005 debut.

Mike Skinner, last season’s "Built Ford Tough 225 presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" runner-up, the 2008 race pole award winner and 2007 race victor, qualified third in his No. 5 Randy Moss Motorsports truck. He has scored a total of three top-five and four top-10 Kentucky Speedway NCWTS finishes.
