Australian Superbike: Stauffer Brothers Share Superbike Round Wins

Yamaha's factory Superbike team notched up two from two round wins and grabbed a hard-fought Supersport victory at Queensland Raceway this weekend.

A dual-round event saw the R1 and R6 pilots on double-duties, chasing double points and seeking to establish themselves amongst the frontrunners with just 2 rounds remaining in the series.

The Ipswich circuit produced its share of drama once again, with a large spread of riders separated by just tenths of a second in each class.

The Stauffer brothers shared round honours in the Superbike ranks, with Dan taking out round 4 on Saturday and Jamie easily sealing round 5 this afternoon.

Jamie backed up solidly in Supersport, adding a round 5 victory to his tally to increase his championship lead.

Yamaha Racing's Dan and Jamie Stauffer dominated proceedings at Queensland Raceway this weekend, the site of rounds 4 and 5 of the Australian Superbike Championship.

The dual-round format saw riders jet in a day early to contest practice sessions on Thursday and a crucial combined qualifying format on the Friday.

Jamie and Dan were in strong contention for pole, consistently trading times at the top of the sheets, but had to settle for P2 and P4 respectively at the conclusion of session two.

The R1 pilots got off to a good start in the opening race and were pacing each other, preparing spectators for a thrilling final series of laps.

A red-flag incident saw the race declared at lap 13, handing Jamie the win with a margin of just 0.217 seconds over his brother.

The tables were turned in the second 16-lap stoush of the day, and, after another lengthy restart due to a rider crash on the first lap, Dan managed to hold out Jamie by an incredible 0.031 seconds as the chequered flag was waved.

Both riders finished the round on 45 points, with Dan taking his second round win of the year by virtue of a higher finish in the second race of the day.

Today's battle looked again to be between the brothers from Kurri Kurri, with Jamie again pipping Dan at the line in race 1.

Unfortunately the duo was unable to complete a perfect run of 1-2 finishes, with Dan retiring to pit lane after just 3 laps, handing his brother the round win.

"It was a shame not to convert the final race and make it a top weekend for Yamaha, the field was really close all weekend but the team has been working very hard to create the best race bike possible and it showed with our results," said Stauffer.

"The R1 is a fantastic motorcycle and I surprised myself with how hard I could push the front end into some of the corners, the Dunlops held on very well for the full race distance."

"I came away with some good placings and good points from the weekend, this really gets the championship on track for the run home."

Dan is third in the chase for the class title, on 166 points, just 21 points behind his brother who took honours in round 5 today.

"That was a tough final race, we raced and hard and Glenn found a way past just a few corners from the end, however its good to pick up the round win today and continue a good run this weekend for Yamaha," said Stauffer.

"It was great to be racing with Daniel for the win, he was very quick and very steady under brakes this weekend and it's a shame he wasn't able to finish the last race today."

"We're 6 points behind so its not all bad, we're close heading into Tasmania where we will look to give the lead another shake."

A solid bag of points from a run of consistent race finishes has re-ignited the championship chase for Yamaha Racing Team Supersport pilot Jeremy Crowe at Queensland Raceway this weekend.

The sole R6 pilot for the Supersport team was determined to factor within the frontrunners and did not disappoint, finishing Saturday's round 4 in third place.
Crowe fought a race-long battle with Josh Waters for the win in race 1, ultimately losing out by a tiny .327 second margin.

Again a frontrunner in the second race, Crowe was shuffled back to fifth, where he was unable to find a way past those ahead of him.

The weekend's double-header format saw all classes back on track for 2 more races on the Saturday, and Crowe was again in top form, finishing third in the opener.

Another fifth in the second race of the day saw him finish fifth overall for the round.

He picked up 36 points for his efforts in round 4, and 34 points in round 5, and is fourth on the standings with 153 points.

"It was tight between all the frontrunners this weekend, there were a number of teams and riders that seemed to have a very solid handle on the setup," said Crowe.

"It was good to get through and grab a second place to start the weekend, we had some good battles and after Winton it was just good to come across the line to a chequered flag each race."

"Each year we try to improve from the mark we've set previously, we did that easily this weekend and will continue to push in Tasmania, a place I personally enjoy."

Yamaha Racing Team Superbike rider Jamie Stauffer won today's round of the series, and was second yesterday.

He extends his points lead on the R6 to 221, 28 clear of second place.

A notable performance throughout the weekend came from Yamaha privateer Ben Attard, who finished fifth outright on Saturday and a commendable third outright on Sunday.

He is not only the leading privateer in the Supersport class but also sits fifth outright on the series ladder.
