Neon Garage to bring Vegas glitz to Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The Las Vegas Strip is coming to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Speedway officials today announced that the new fan-interactive garage area being built in the speedway’s infield will be known as the Neon Garage.

The name is derived from the neon lights that represent the glamour of Las Vegas as well as the garage that is the centerpiece of NASCAR tracks across the country.

“It’s not often that you get the opportunity to invent something, but with the Neon Garage, we truly believe that Las Vegas Motor Speedway is creating a new way for fans to experience a NASCAR race,” said Chris Powell, LVMS general manager.

The Neon Garage will be positioned in the center of the LVMS infield. It will be comprised of four buildings – constructed in the shape of a diamond – in which the NASCAR Nextel Cup teams will prepare their cars to race. Each building will be two stories, which will allow race fans to watch the teams work from ground level or from an elevated position.

“I congratulate Chris Powell and LVMS for launching this improvement project,” said NASCAR Chairman Brian France. “The Neon Garage area will give race fans an opportunity to see their favorite drivers up close. The strong relationship between fans and drivers is a NASCAR hallmark, which will be alive and well at LVMS.”

The center of the Neon Garage will be open to race fans. There will be a sports bar with big screens to watch the on-track action, concession stands and continuous entertainment acts that represent Las Vegas’ best shows. As an added bonus, the speedway is moving its Winner’s Circle into the Neon Garage as well.

“The NASCAR Weekend is the biggest event in Nevada each year, and the Neon Garage will be an entertainment showplace that is unique to Las Vegas and all of motorsports,” Powell said. “It is our hope that all of the Strip properties will want their acts to perform in the Neon Garage at some point during the race weekend.”

The Neon Garage also will give race teams one of the best working environments in all of motorsports.

“This is setting a new standard for our sport,” said 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion Kurt Busch. “I think everyone in our sport will be excited to get to Las Vegas Motor Speedway just to see all of the amazing changes that have been made to the facility. It will be second to none.”
