Media Coverage of U.S. World Cup Soccer Team Ramping Up
Media coverage of the team has certainly ramped up in ’06, and the last week in Cary saw the bar raised another level. More than 40 media outlets from the U.S., Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Japan spent two days going through lengthy interview sessions with the entire roster and U.S. Manager Bruce Arena.
ESPN took several players and Arena for a day-long shoot to capture footage for the latest in their “one game changes everything” World Cup ad campaign featuring the music of U2 and voiceovers from the band members. The U.S. national team version is set to hit the airwaves by the end of the month.

Sports Illustrated sent two separate photographers to do shoots with Kasey Keller and the quartet of DaMarcus Beasley, Bobby Convey, Landon Donovan and Oguchi Onyewu.
USA Today photographers are on hand Monday to shoot Beasley and Donovan for an upcoming feature on the dynamic duo, while both NBC News with Brian Williams and CNN will film interviews at the training session and Tuesday night’s match.
Sports fans will get the benefit of more media converage with an inside the locker room view of the U.S. Men’s National Team when ESPN’s SportsCenter kicks off a series of behind-the-scenes features that will air nightly from May 24-29.
SportsCenter’s World Cup reporter Shelley Smith will deliver the 90-second segments that will be shot and aired the same day, showing scenes from training, team meetings, locker rooms and wherever else the cameras might make their way during the five-day window.
