German Football Star Lukas Podolski goes rallying with Red Bull Skoda

Lukas Podolski, the 20 year old shooting star of German football, ventured on an excursion into rallying last week. On a special stage of a rally in Daun, over twelve kilometres of closed off road, he experienced the Skoda Fabia World Rally Car, driven by Armin Schwarz, as a co-driver.
After a slower reconnaissance lap they were up to racing speed: "What surprised me the most was that a car can be driven in such a controlled manner despite the high speeds and the resulting drift angles. You do get a completely different impression of driving a car this way. Particularly, the normal breaking points that you would use in everyday road traffic are no longer valid. It was a terrific experience for me."

The Fabia WRC usually goes into action in the World Rally Championship where it is run by the Red Bull Skoda team, headed by Armin Schwarz together with the Austrian Raimund Baumschlager.
Incidentally, during the team's next WRC event in Sardinia from the 18th to the 21st of May, the German national football team including Podolski will be preparing for the World Cup in training camp at the same time. It is quite possible that one or the other player will drop by the service park in Olbia as a guest of the Red Bull Skoda team.
