Race Touareg and Jutta Kleinschmidt win on “Wetten dass”
Volkswagen Race Touareg and works driver Jutta Kleinschmidt make guest appearance on ZDF: On the television show "Wetten dass…” the Volkswagen works driver was faced with an unusual race against time on Saturday evening and competed with the 275 hp Race Touareg 2 against a four-horse-power horse-drawn carriage around an obstacle course. In front of a TV audience of millions and almost 5,000 spectators surrounding the course close to Viersen, Jutta Kleinschmidt beat her challenger Cornelia Quinkler and her tournament four-in-hand by a mere six seconds.

"It was an excellent idea, the bet was great fun”, explained Jutta Kleinschmidt, who was later welcomed onto the show in Düsseldorf by Thomas Gottschalk. "The carriage had an advantage during the tests on Friday in the extremely wet and muddy conditions, on Saturday it dried out and was much colder and this in turn suited the Race Touareg.” Afterwards, the Volkswagen works driver spontaneously invited her ‘bet opponent’ Cornelia Quinkler and team to the Dakar Rally finish. On 31 December Jutta Kleinschmidt and her team mates Bruno Saby, Carlos Sainz, Mark Miller and Giniel de Villiers start the desert classic that finishes, as is tradition, in Dakar on 15 January.
Volkswagen works duo Saby/Périn honoured by the FIA
Volkswagen works drivers Bruno Saby and Michel Périn honoured: At the traditional FIA winners’ award ceremony in Monte Carlo the two Frenchmen were honoured for winning the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup. "It was an emotional and very atmospheric evening attended by many World Champions and celebrities”, explained Bruno Saby. "For Michel and I this prize is a fantastic end to a very successful season, together with Volkswagen and the Race Touareg we won three rallies and the World Cup title.” The next celebratory occasion for Bruno Saby is on Monday – the French Motorsport Association FFSA presentation.
