Lally, Potter Drive Porsche 911 to Victory in KONI Sports Car Challenge at Watkins Glen

Andy Lally (Dacula, GA) drove the # 41 TRG Porsche 911 to victory Friday in a wild KONI Sports Car Challenge Series race at Watkins Glen. Lally overcame all-time KONI victory leader Bill Auberlen (Redondo Beach, CA), two faster BMW M3 Coupes and rain to post his fifth career victory.

When Auberlen lost the lead over BMW teammate Joey Hand (Sacramento, CA) by going too wide in turn 1 at Watkins Glen International Raceway, Lally, running third, moved up to second place. Then with just 12 minutes left in the two hour, 30 minute race, Lally bumped his way past Hand and led the rest of the way. Auberlen and Hand battled each other for second place, allowing Lally to pull away to a 1.117-second margin of victory over Auberlen.

John Potter (Salt Lake City, Utah) co-drove with Lally. The race ended under a rain shower that saw several cars spin off track, but Lally was careful to stay on course to victory.

Spencer Pumpelly (Suwanee, GA) and Duncan Ende (Los Angeles, CA) finished fifth in their # 39 TRG Porsche 911 (997 type).

"This is such a talent rich series and Watkins Glen is a great place to race," Lally said. "On the last restart, it was some of the craziest moves I’ve ever seen. We were four wide, door to door. We passed each other three or four times.

"This is a wonderful win for TRG and John (Potter). It’s his first victory, and he did a good job. This puts us back in the hunt for the championship."
